Fire Extinguishers

What are fire extinguishers?

Fire extinguishers are first aid fire-fighting appliances. Most fires start out as a small fire and can develop from this into being out of control. A fire extinguisher gives you the opportunity to stop this.

Martin Harrison established Firepoint UK after 20 years of service in the London Fire Brigade. We install and maintain fire extinguishers, fire alarm systems and all fire safety equipment, as well as providing a reliable, professional service to clients in the South East.

Firepoint UK supply fire extinguishers to all areas of the UK. From our base in Colchester, Essex, our engineers attend sites in London and surrounding counties on a daily basis.

We are a leading fire extinguisher stockist, and the fire extinguishers that we use are from top-end manufacturers, whose workmanship and attention to detail is second-to-none. We do not use cheap, imported fire extinguishers, and all of the units we supply are either BS Kitemarked or CE marked. Our fire extinguishers are guaranteed for five years!

If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase and our services, we offer a full refund.

Choose Firepoint UK to service and maintain your fire extinguishers, and receive a discount on the servicing of your fire alarm system.

Types of fire extinguishers

These fire extinguishers are used on A Class fires, caused by solid materials such as timber, cardboard and fabrics. Water fire extinguishers have a RED label.

These are used on electrical fires. They leave no residue and work by cutting off the fire’s air supply. They can also be used on Class B fires (flammable liquids e.g. petrol). CO2 fire extinguishers have a BLACK label.

Foam fire extinguishers are used on both Class A and B fires, working to seal the air off from flammable vapour, thus eliminating fuel for the fire. Foam fire extinguishers have a CREAM label.

Dry Powder

Dry powder fire extinguishers can be used on Classes A, B and C fires (Class C fires involve gases such as methane). They can also be used on electrical fires, however, re-igniting is a possibility. Dry powder fire extinguishers have a BLUE label.

Water Mist

These extinguishers cool the surface of a burning item, and starve the fire of oxygen. They are able to be used on fat fires as they do not have the typical explosive reaction to burning oil/fat that normal water would.

Wet Chemical

Wet chemical fire extinguishers are specifically designed for Class F fires (burning oil & fat). The wet chemical reacts to form a solution that seals the surface and prevents reignition. They can also be used on Class A & B fires. Wet chemical extinguishers have a YELLOW label.
